The two sides are due to do battle over three Tests and five one-day internationals, with the Aussies strong favourites to claim both series with ease.
However, the islanders have certainly improved since the last time the world's best team visited the Caribbean and Ponting says his men will take nothing for granted this time around.
"I think they are starting to turn things around there a little bit better at the moment," he said. "Their bowling attack probably in particular is definitely a lot stronger than the last time we played them in Test cricket.
"As always, they will pose a bit of a threat in their home conditions."
However, the Tasmanian sounded a warning that, with a number of new faces in his line-up, the men from Down Under will be as competitive as ever as fringe players look to secure a starting berth in the talented line-up.
"I think with some fresher faces around our group, as well as a bit of a change of personnel from the last game that we played, I think it's a really good opportunity for this team to keep forging its own identity," he added.
