The 24-year-old nailed down the number three spot in England's Test team with three consecutive centuries against the West Indies.
However, he has failed to recapture that form in four Tests with the Australians and averages just 15 with one match of the series left to play.
The England hierarchy have told the right-hander to go back to his county, Essex, and play in the upcoming four-day match with Middlesex, in an attempt to regain some form and confidence ahead of the all-important fifth Test at the Oval.
Whether or not Bopara plays in south London is open to question with the likes of Rob Key and even 39-year-old Mark Ramprakash tipped to fill his role should the selectors opt to rest the youngster.
Whatever the selectors do, Grayson feels it is a win-win situation with Bopara back at Chelmsford.
"He's coming back to some familiar faces and a dressing room he's very happy with," told BBC Essex. "He's still a top-class player but he's just lost a bit of form and a bit of confidence.
"Ravi's going to need some loving this week and hopefully he can go to Lord's and get some runs.
"So I have every confidence in Ravi and let's hope he gets a big hundred this week at Lord's."
