England spinner in new pay dispute

England spinner Monty Panesar's planned stint in Sri Lanka's domestic competition now looks doomed due to a pay dispute.

England tour India this winter and the 26-year-old had been scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka next month to join up with Bloomfield in the Premier Trophy tournament, in an effort to gain some experience of sub-continental pitches.
However, there is now a strong doubt over Panesar's attendance after talks between the Sri Lankan club and the England and Wales Cricket Board broke down.

Bloomfield president Upali Dharmadasa is unhappy with the compensation offered by the ECB and wants a whole lot more as Panesar's involvement would mean one of their players was forced to sit out for a month.
"We were going to sacrifice one of our players to accommodate Panesar so we told John Carr, the ECB's director of cricket, to compensate us with something so that the club and the player will benefit," Dharmadasa said.
"Initially they came to us and said they would pay £500. We said we were not happy with the figure and we put the matter up to the committee which decided that £7500 would be a reasonable amount. However Carr came back to us and said they can pay only £1000 which is not acceptable to us."
