Cook makes cash admission

Alastair Cook has admitted that the England players are more focused on money as opposed to the cricket for the Stanford Twenty20 game.

The Essex and England batsman claims come in the build up to the big-money showdown against the Stanford Superstars side in Antigua on November 1 in which each player has the opportunity to scoop $1m (£577,500) should they win the encounter.
Cook, who is part of a 15-man squad set to travel to the Caribbean to play in the Stanford Super Series, insists the entire event would lack importance if it were not for the money on offer.
"The actual cricket is quite unimportant, apart from financially," he told BBC 5 Live.

"Of course, money does talk and a lot of the players are excited about playing it but in terms of cricket, we know it's not that important."
He added: "We'll use it probably as a warm-up for the Twenty20 World Cup in England next year.
"We can only benefit and that's a good position to be in, but when you're talking about the Stanford millions or the Ashes, there's only going to be one winner."
Cook and his team-mates will be hoping the event gets the go-ahead as it was left in doubt when the West Indies Cricket Board, which sanctioned the match, lost a High Court case against team sponsor Digicel, which had been overlooked for the Stanford Super Series.
