Compton earns Wisden honour

Somerset and England opener Nick Compton has been named as one of Wisden's five Cricketers of the year.

The 29-year-old has joined his grandfather Denis in being named on the elite list, which recognises the performances of five players during the previous English summer.
Compton amassed 1,494 first-class runs for Somerset at an average of 99.6, earning him a call-up to the England squad for the winter tours of India and New Zealand.
South Africa's 2-0 Test series win over England last year has been recognised, with Proteas trio Jacques Kallis, Hashim Amla and Dale Steyn all named.

That dominant victory ensured that Graeme Smith's side would go above England to the top of the ICC World Test rankings. Amla is currently top of the world Test batting rankings, while paceman Steyn is number one with the ball. Veteran all-rounder Kallis meanwhile is finally recognised for a stellar international career that dates back to 1995.
Powerful West Indies batsmen Marlon Samuels is also named, principally for his displays at the T20 World Cup, which included a 56-ball 78 in the final against Sri Lanka.
A player can only ever be named once on the list, though Australia skipper Michael Clarke - who was recognised in 2010 - has been named Wisden's leading cricketer in the world after averaging 106 with the bat in 2012.
