Akmal pays the price

Kamran Akmal and Abdul Razzaq have been axed from the Pakistan one-day squad squad for their upcoming tour of the West Indies.

The World Cup semi-finalists kick off their tour of the Caribbean with a Twenty20 encounter on April 21, with five one-day internationals to follow.
They will also play two Tests but the five-day squad has yet to be announced.
Akmal's position as wicket-keeper was always likely to come under scrutiny as he is clearly not up to the standard required and put in some dreadful performances behind the stumps during the recent World Cup.
But the decision to leave him out of the squad entirely is a controversial one given his skill with the bat and powerful hitting in the one-day game.
PCB chief selector Mohsin Khan did not rule out a return for Akmal or veteran all-rounder Razzaq, but wants to blood some youngsters after the disappointment of losing to champions India in the last four of the World Cup.

"At the moment there's no place for Abdul Razzaq and Kamran Akmal in the team," he said. "We want to try out few youngsters and that's why we have picked those players who have performed outstandingly on the domestic circuit."
Muhammad Salman will keep wicket while Usman Salahuddin, Taufeeq Umar and Aizaz Cheema have all been called up to the squad.
Shahid Afridi will continue as captain but he will be without both Umar Gul and Younus Khan for the one-dayers, as they have both been rested after their exploits in recent times.

Pakistan Squad: Shahid Afridi (capt), Mohammad Hafeez, Ahmed Shehzad, Taufeeq Umar, Usman Salahuddin, Misbah-ul-Haq, Asad Shafiq, Umar Akmal, Abdur Rehman, Saeed Ajmal, Tanvir Ahmed, Wahab Riaz, Junaid Khan, Hammad Azam, Aizaz Cheema and Mohammad Salman (wk).
